Description

This textile item is a two-piece corset and skirt inspired by Renaissance architecture. Drawing from the decorative cornices and gold gilding featured on the ceilings and walls of Renaissance castles, the corset is embellished with intricate hand-embroidery using polyester thread, beading and hand-made piping. Moreover, sublimation printing of a mural is employed on both centre back panels as well as the polyester ribbon used to lace up the corset, tying in the Renaissance 'Fresco' paintings often seen on ceilings. By layering these decorative techniques the garment beautifully imitates the three dimensional nature of ornate palace interiors. The yoked skirt is fully lined with a 'bubble' hem, concealing all seam allowances and raw edges between the lining and outer skirt. Further, hand sewn 'pick-ups' are used to create volume while also incorporating the corset's fresco design whereby sublimation printed, self-cover buttons are used to secure the draped fabric.

"The surface of the bodice is heavily decorated with applied trim and beadwork in a swirling, organic pattern. The trim is made of cording in varying shades of green and a neutral taupe or beige, creating raised, sculptural lines that resemble vines or tendrils. These lines are further enhanced with a delicate embroidery of small beads. The beadwork includes tiny seed beads in shades of light green, gold, and clear, interspersed with small pearls and some darker gold beads. These beads are densely applied along the curves of the applied trim, adding texture and sparkle."

"It features a complex lacing system with satin ribbons in shades of dusty blue, grey, and beige. The central panel of the bodice has a print resembling a sky and clouds, with subtle human figures incorporated into the design. This printed fabric is accented with delicate embroidery and beading. The embroidery consists of thin, twisted cords in a natural rope-like colour, embellished with small green beads and white pearls."
