Description

The textile art project is an eight-sided scalloped bell lampshade, that displays old store windows. Inspiration has developed from the country town of Tamworth NSW, being the first municipality in Australia to use electricity to light its streets, in 1888. These windows represent what stores looked like, in any main street of an Australian town, from the time period 1920's-1950's. The store windows will consist of a Drapery, Butchery, Bakery, Pharmacy, Greengrocer, Milk bar, Hardware Store, and Barber Shop. Looking into the windows symbolises the 'City' and the lamp symbolises the 'Light', therefore the name of the textile art design is the 'First City of Light'. The incorporation of the 1950's lamp shade has been utilised to ensure the overall design; shape and style remain historical.
