The Textile item reflects the inspiration from a variety of contemporary, historical, and cultural sources that reflects the beauty and unique biodiversity of Australia. Threads of the Threatened, is a two-piece garment consisting of a short, fitted halter-neck bodice and a full-length, heavily embellished skirt featuring beaded, embroidered, appliqued, and couched Australian native flora and insects. The decorative piece of wearable art, intended for highly special occasions draws on inspirations from Dior, 1970s fashion, Cicely Mary Barker and traditional Indian lehengas, to formulate the silhouette and most significantly, a base for the primary influence of endangered Australian flora and insects. The textile item has been adorned with techniques including dyeing, printing, embroidery, couching, beading, and applique, ensuring that the representations of native plants and insects are prominent and conversation starting.

Select Student Folio Pages

The pages selected for each project reflect the individual students' interpretations of the syllabus guidelines for the MTP.
