Description

The textile item is an evening gown it is intended to be worn at a formal event with a black-tie dress code, such as a ball or gala. The item is inspired by cultural, historical, and contemporary factors, traditional Japanese textiles and embroidery,1950s evening wear and Oscar de la Renta’s Fall 2017 Ready-to-Wear collection. The overall concept of the design is a 1950s-style evening gown that utilises elements of traditional Japanese textiles and decorative techniques. The design is also inspired by the silhouette from Oscar de la Renta’s Fall 2017 collection. Japanese embroidery and fabrics have been traditionally used in apparel items that are worn during cultural ceremonies to communicate the wealth and social status of the wearer or as seen more recently, incorporated into contemporary style gowns. The textile item represents a contemporary fusion of cultural, historical, and contemporary fashion using a 1950s-stylegown and traditional Japanese fabrics and decorative techniques.
