The textile item draws inspiration from the tranquil beauty and cultural significance of rice fields, interweaving their essence with the often-overlooked charm of post-Second World War countries like Vietnam. Amidst the scars of conflict, the student’s objective is to explore the enduring symbols of resilience and renewal that emerge from these landscapes. In weaving together the threads of history and heritage, the textile serves as a poignant reminder of the beauty that can emerge from even the darkest chapters of our collective past. With a focus on Mother Nature’s femininity and resilience, the design can worn to a summer daytime high-end event. Aesthetic features include fabric manipulation techniques such as draping, to represent the fluidity of the Vietnamese rice field’s lines and shapes. This contemporary inspiration may also be symbolised through waved pintucks, adding tactile texture to the design which heightens visual interest. The harmonious darker blue and green colour palette derived from the rice fields emphasise the aesthetic appeal of the design. As the design is styled for summer the fabric is breathable and light weight chiffon for the sleeves to increase the comfort.
