The textiles item is a classical tutu for ballet performances. The primary inspiration for the tutu design is the 100 Years of Disney Celebration. Embellishments such as tambour beading are inspired by Disney Princess Gowns that reflect elements of French Haute Couture. The decoration and colouration of the tutu draw inspiration from The Walt Disney Company’s rich tradition of storytelling. The use of sublimation printing to incorporate artwork inspired by Disney legend Mary Blair and Cinderella’s castle adds a layer of cultural significance and visual interest. The classical ballet tutu, designed with a Disney fantasy theme, features a colour palette of teal, pink, and gold. The skirt consists of ten jagged layers of nylon tulle: plain teal, glittery pink, glittery green, and gold, many of the layers being teal. Additionally, the top and bottom teal layers have been pleated for a neat finish. The skirt has been tacked to hold a classical tutu shape. The skirt is topped with a gold and green tulle plate adorned with tambour beading, gold diamond-like motifs, ribbon strips, and costume crystals. The bodice features a soft “V” shape and is made from teal duchess satin. It features a sublimation print of Cinderella’s castle by Mary Blair, enhanced with felted clouds, Angelina fibre roofs and hand beading. The bodice and skirt are connected by a teal duchess satin basque, while the bodice lining is made of coutil fabric that has been sublimation printed with Walt Disney’s Disneyland opening day speech in the same colour palette.
