Description

The quilt reflects the evolution of both quilting and fairy tales. The hand appliqued tree represents the diversity and multifaceted nature of fairytales, the branches like the many different stories and retellings. The intricate gold and silver beading and embroidery symbolise the treasure and value of these tales. These embellishments also link to the border quote ‘Shake, shake, hazel tree, gold and silver over me’ from the tale ‘Cinderella’. The tree motif also alludes to the reoccurring forest setting common in fairy tales. The queen, inspired by Amy Tedge’s Angel, was made using a range of techniques.
