Description

The textile item, Enchanting Floral Costume Design, consists of three parts: a reversible corset, an A-line skirt and an overlay skirt. The reversible corset has a polyester suit fabric exterior and a satin lining fabric that features an embroidered floral design on the back side panels of the satin side of the corset. The corset is boned internally with top stitching along the bone channels. Top stitched bias binding is also used to encase the raw top and bottom edges of the corset. The corset utilises a sweetheart neckline, eyelets at the centre back and ribbon to lace up the corset. The six panel A-line skirt features floral Canadian Smocking at the centre front with a satin fabric. The pattern has been altered to overlay the side front panels using the contrasting suit fabric, these side panels also feature floral embroidery, hand beading and digitised laser cut flowers. Finally, the A-line skirt overlay utilises French seams to enclose the raw organza fabric and a rolled-overlocked hem for the base. The pattern has been modified to be open at the front with a rolled-overlocked vertical edging seam to create closure which allows the Canadian smocking and embroidery to be highlighted. The overlay uses an opaque fabric waistband and an invisible zipper at the centre back which is hidden through the hand application of a pearl trim.
