The ‘Power Suit’ is a two-piece outfit including a jacket and pants made out of Harley Fuchsia fabric 47% Cuprammonium rayon, 31% Linen and 22% Tencel and Sunsilky Lining Pale Pink 100% Polyester. It was mainly inspired by women empowerment throughout history and its role in today's society. This motivated me to design a hot pink suit for women to feel confident and comfortable in whilst feeling powerful. By creating this suit to be worn as evening wear it successfully achieved my goals for designing a Valentino inspired power suit but modified into my own individual way. Throughout this process I learnt many things specifically the importance to be particular and cautious when tailoring a suit to ensure correct sizing and fits properly. I also learnt how to manage time and set goals to achieve certain tasks throughout the year to try and complete the project in the set time limit. Overall, this experience has been extremely rewarding as I look back on what I created and accomplished with the help of my teacher and others around me. The greatest challenge was ironing on the pink New York skyline on the inside of the Jacket and trying to line it up without gaps or overlapping each sheet over each other. I had to be meticulous, and it was a time consuming process that took a large amount of attention and work. The use of the elements and principles of design were utilised throughout the garment to create an aesthetic look whilst also allowing for a functional design. By implementing them into the design it creates visual unity and harmony to allow for an interesting and cohesive design. Specific aesthetic aspects of my design include the hourglass effect and shape of the jacket as it is tailored and well-fitted at the sides making it cinched around the waist. The Harley Fuchsia fabric which is used as the main fabric of the jacket and pants has a tactile texture through its smooth and shiny feel and look which is not only aesthetic but also functional as it is extremely comfortable on the skin due to the soft material of the fabric and construction itself. Further aesthetic appeal is also achieved through the monochromatic colour scheme of the bright pink colour continued throughout the design which adds colour and value.
