My inspiration for this project was my love for theatre and costuming in live productions. Personally I have performed the Can Can dance so making this outfit was really special to me as it brought back old memories of me dancing. My project is intended to be loud and eye catching so the use of bright coloured silks and satins was crucial in achieving a successful project. Through the year of creating this piece I have really come to appreciate attention to detail and the importance of staying patient while problem solving as there have been many challenges while creating this piece and throughout navigating them I have produced a work am I very proud off. The most valuable experience was watching pieces of fabric slowly start to turn into a viable piece which kept me motivated and excited throughout the process but the greatest challenge was in the beginning in deciding what I wanted to produce as I had too many ideas. Some of the aesthetic features of my project included the bright colours on the ruffles to capture the audience’s attention to the skirt, the lace around the bodice to give it interest and the flared waist of the bodice to highlight the dancers figure. Some of the functional features included the boning, interfacing and lining in the bodice so it doesn't move while the dancer is performing, the eyelets and ribbon closure in the back so it is adjustable and secure and an invisible zipper in the skirt for ease of wear.
