Australiana

Northern Beaches Secondary College Freshwater Senior Campus

Alyssa Turner

"'Australiana' is a costume inspired by, and designed to celebrate, the natural environment and vibrant representations of Australia, such as Uluru and the Great Barrier Reef."

Images of Work

"The recurring feature of binding along the hem of each layer creates an orderly, tidy and appealing aesthetic appearance to my costume. By dyeing white binding the same colour as each layer, it blends in smoothly without creating harsh lines on the dress creating further synchronization and harmony to my Major Textiles Project."

"Finished a large amount of machine embroidery, I was able to stitch directly onto layers to create texture and patterns, combined with many embroidered decorations created with wash-away fabric that were stitched onto the dress, such as the coral on The Great Barrier Reef tier."

Select Student Folio Pages

The pages selected for each project reflect the individual students' interpretations of the syllabus guidelines for the MTP. Each student should develop their folio according to the guidelines, relating to their own individual project. This may result in a variety of presentation styles, numbers of sketches and/or experiments.
