Woodland Wanderer

Ulladulla High School

"'Woodland Warrior' is a wearable textile art piece featuring a cloak and corset design inspired by Viking culture and Australian textile artist, Meredith Woolnough. Natural elements such as leaf and vine designs mimic textural and colourful aspects of the forest floor."

Images of Work

"The technical use of sewing boning into the bodice of my garment reflects historical textile developments, as featured in The Viking Age. After experimenting with various methods of inserting boning into the corset, I was able to sew the boning directly onto the fabric. By using boning in the bodice, applying decorative techniques to the surface became easier due to stability achieved."

"One of the most innovative aspects of the design is the use of free-motion embroidery on water soluble fabric. This technique involves drawing a design onto water soluble fabric, stitching with a specialised machine foot and dissolving the fabric to reveal the stitched leaf structure. This innovative technique produces delicate, leaf-like skeletons which are aesthetically appealing and effective because of their fragile appearance. I was initially inspired by Australian textile artist, Meredith Woolnough, who uses this technique to create images of corals, and other natural forms."

Select Student Folio Pages

The pages selected for each project reflect the individual students' interpretations of the syllabus guidelines for the MTP. Each student should develop their folio according to the guidelines, relating to their own individual project. This may result in a variety of presentation styles, numbers of sketches and/or experiments.
