Folklore Fairies

Presbyterian Ladies' College Sydney

Satsuki Ota-Jones

"'Folklore Fairies' is a three-piece fairy themed costume derived from contemporary knitting and crochet and the Rococo era of fashion. A variety of surface decoration techniques created a tactile raised surface and enhanced the whimsical aura of the costume."

Images of Work

"Knitting as a manufacturing technique provided for the ability to create a soft textural surface decoration and a sleeve shrug. This incorporated older techniques into a unique contemporary design. The mohair silk yarn allowed for a reflection of the whimsical fairy nature, as well as amplifying the decorative characteristics of Rococo fashion."

"Embroidery was used throughout the design, enhancing the decorative and textural features. Wine coloured ribbon roses contrasted with the green taffeta corset, creating a tactile raised surface on a smooth fabric. Embroidered 3D leaves attached with gold thread on the skirt enhanced the whimsical aurora of the costume, and gold seed beads create a fairy dust-like visual effect."

Select Student Folio Pages

The pages selected for each project reflect the individual students' interpretations of the syllabus guidelines for the MTP. Each student should develop their folio according to the guidelines, relating to their own individual project. This may result in a variety of presentation styles, numbers of sketches and/or experiments.
