Marionettes

Engadine High School

Tamara McKeon

"My MTP is a pair of costumed fabric marionettes inspired by the Ballet Russes, historical Russian clothing and contemporary puppet theatre ImaginArta."

Images of Work

"The piping around the collars and the edge of my blue coat allows these pieces to sit flat and directs the eye to a line around the edge that borders them and creates contrast. The piping also minimises bulk around the seams it is inserted into, as well as adding structure to these areas."

"The embroidered eyes allow the marionettes to function and perform as engaging puppets and connect with the audience. The embroidery is completed using satin stitch to create both vertical and radial lines. These produce rhythm in the eyes, adding interest to the eyes and contribute expression to the face. The eyes are large and therefore easily visible to an audience when the puppets perform."

Select Student Folio Pages

The pages selected for each project reflect the individual students' interpretations of the syllabus guidelines for the MTP. Each student should develop their folio according to the guidelines, relating to their own individual project. This may result in a variety of presentation styles, numbers of sketches and/or experiments.
