Lace 'n' Layers

Maitland Grossmann High School

Matilda Guernier

"'Lace 'n' Layers' is a Classic Japanese Lolita three-piece dress which was inspired by Victorian era fashion and contemporary fashion designer, Simone Rocha."

Images of Work

"Inspired by the decorative nature of the Victorian era alongside the quality and craftsmanship of design, I chose to hand crochet small lace strips to highlight my skills in crochet. This overall added to the subtle textual richness and complex detail adding to the handmade aesthetic of my Major Textiles Project."

"I designed a unique motif reflecting organic shapes that was painted onto the dresses’ skirt using white and pearlescent fabric paint. I then embroidered around the design providing texture and contrast while retaining the white-on-white aesthetic. This traditional surface decoration technique reflects the Victorian era while incorporating within a contemporary design."

Select Student Folio Pages

The pages selected for each project reflect the individual students' interpretations of the syllabus guidelines for the MTP. Each student should develop their folio according to the guidelines, relating to their own individual project. This may result in a variety of presentation styles, numbers of sketches and/or experiments.
