Animal Sculpture

"The whimsical giraffe and rabbit textile art sculptures were inspired by Alice Mary Lynch, Mr Finch and Graeme Base, through their depiction and personification of wildlife."

Images of Work

"Interfacing was used on the 100% cotton fabric, and on the body and ears of the rabbit as well as within the giraffe. I used it to stabilise the fabric, also to make it stronger providing support for a more structured appearance and to add coverage over the black cotton waste filling. The interfacing combined with a small stitch length when constructing the sculptures, delivers a strong seam and reduces the ability of the stuffing ‘leaking’ through the seams and being exposed."

"The beading presented on both the rabbit and the giraffe, inside and outside of the rings, display the different textures, colours and curiosity in theses sculptures. Being exhibited predominantly on the main parts of the giraffe’s body and legs as well as the rabbit’s coat, the beading replicates the giraffe's body hair on both the rabbit coat and the giraffe. While also highlighting the beauty and eccentricity that the sculptures hold through the eye catching vibrant golden colours."

Select Student Folio Pages

The pages selected for each project reflect the individual students' interpretations of the syllabus guidelines for the MTP. Each student should develop their folio according to the guidelines, relating to their own individual project. This may result in a variety of presentation styles, numbers of sketches and/or experiments.
