"My Major Textiles Project is inspired by traditional Japanese craft techniques melded with contemporary design: featuring a modern corset made from a vintage haori, and a non-Euclidean shaped skirt inspired by Gaudi."

Images of Work

"The skirt fabric was initially hand-dyed using natural indigo dye, then the origami element was enhanced by the skirt being given a crushed paper look. The gravity-defying linen skirt was stiffened using Buckram and crushed using diluted water-based fabric stiffener. It was then heated to create the illusion of scrunched paper."

"The skirt is decorated with origami butterflies which were created from vintage silk and cotton fabrics. The fabric pieces were ironed onto 'Vliesofix', folded into butterfly shapes and then sprayed with adhesive spray."

Select Student Folio Pages

The pages selected for each project reflect the individual students' interpretations of the syllabus guidelines for the MTP. Each student should develop their folio according to the guidelines, relating to their own individual project. This may result in a variety of presentation styles, numbers of sketches and/or experiments.
