Description

Inspiration is primarily Japan and its culture. The textile art piece is a modern take on the traditional Japanese Kimonos, being very detail oriented. A traditional, silk haori coat from the 1950’s has been upcycled to produce the corset, while maintaining the original sleeves. Traditional indigo leaf dyeing was used to colour the linen skirt fabric. Origami has been incorporated in the crumpled fabric for the skirt which has been embellished with origami butterflies. Machine embroidered branches and fabric cherry blossoms or sakura, have been incorporated onto a silk belt, representing the obi and the nature element of Japanese culture.

The pages selected for each project reflect the individual students' interpretations of the syllabus guidelines for the MTP. Each student should develop their folio according to the guidelines, relating to their own individual project.
