Haute Couture Blouse and pant set

"My Major Textiles Project has been inspired by the era of piracy; this is shown through smocking, embroidery and cording emphasising the beauty of traditional sewing techniques."

Images of Work

"I have used the manufacturing technique of smocking (English and North American) as a method of controlling excess fabric in my MTP. However, it also doubles as a decorative technique through the embroidery used on it's surface. This has allowed me to increase the authenticity of my work, showcasing how traditional pirate garments would have been assembled, with smocking adding weight, warmth and texture to fabrics and garments."

"Across the blouse of my project, I have used embroidery to create ornate Celtic knots and ribbon embroidered waratah flowers (the floral emblem of NSW). This detailed design adds colour and interest whilst acknowledging and paying tribute to my Irish heritage as well as my home and place of birth, NSW, Australia."

Select Student Folio Pages

The pages selected for each project reflect the individual students' interpretations of the syllabus guidelines for the MTP. Each student should develop their folio according to the guidelines, relating to their own individual project. This may result in a variety of presentation styles, numbers of sketches and/or experiments.
