History on Screen

James Sheahan Catholic High School

Eidan Monks

"Inspired by fashion styles displayed in the 1860’s, changes in technology, and the works of particular costume designers; ‘History on Screen’ has been created with the intention to be worn in a period film, set during the Victorian Era."

Images of Work

"My aim was for my MTP to be as historically accurate as possible, so I utilised French seams throughout the garments, as would have been appropriate at that time. This choice resulted in a clean and high quality finish, specifically on the naturally dyed, light weight, silk chemisette, giving a very comfortable wear against the skin. This demonstration of authentic manufacturing techniques highlights the complex dressmaking capability of the seamstresses of the time."

"Various sizes of laser cut circles have been layered on top of each other and secured with beads to create flowers which have been placed on the top skirt reveres for subtle decoration. These flowers tie in well with the fabrics of the top skirt."

Select Student Folio Pages

The pages selected for each project reflect the individual students' interpretations of the syllabus guidelines for the MTP. Each student should develop their folio according to the guidelines, relating to their own individual project. This may result in a variety of presentation styles, numbers of sketches and/or experiments.
