Dragon Deity

Kinross Wolaroi School

Elizabeth Kwa

"Inspired by my ethnic background, the theme of my Major Textiles Project centres around Chinese culture, history and decorative techniques. The most notable feature on the garment is the glittering dragon Shenlong, the mythological bringer of rain and storms."

Images of Work

"Invisibly slip stitching the silk-painted dragon image onto the silk organza backing fabric creates an illusion of the blue dragon flying through the translucent atmosphere. Wrapping this image around the body of the dress helps to capture the myth of the Chinese dragon; winding through the air, orchestrating the weather."

"Hand stitching lustrous sequins and beads to the dress creates the effect of raindrops glistening in the sunlight, and links directly to the blue silk-painted dragon and the blue of water and of the sky. This links to my inspiration of the Shenlong dragon emerging from a thunderstorm, shimmering in the sun."

Select Student Folio Pages

The pages selected for each project reflect the individual students' interpretations of the syllabus guidelines for the MTP. Each student should develop their folio according to the guidelines, relating to their own individual project. This may result in a variety of presentation styles, numbers of sketches and/or experiments.
