Equality

Katelyn Kotevski

"For my Major Textiles Project, I designed evening apparel in the form of a fishtail dress. The primary inspiration of equality, specifically the Black Lives Matter (BLM) Movement, has been incorporated into the design using an achromatic colour scheme, symbolising the division of different races within a contemporary society. Further inspirations of beading, crochet and Venetian culture; through the form of surface corded patterns, all function coherently to produce a sophisticated design."

Images of Work

"The crochet insert connecting the bodice and skirt components together, creates an element of fabric differentiation which thus adds visual and tactile textural interest into the design. The fine, intricate details in the crochet design places an emphasis on the overall luxurious appeal of the dress; an aspect which is crucial in creating formal wear."

"The surface cording on the white half of the dress added significant visual and tactile textural interest. The organic nature of the geometric lines in the Venetian-inspired pattern projected feelings of serenity and tranquillity, embracing the romantic form of the gown."

Select Student Folio Pages

The pages selected for each project reflect the individual students' interpretations of the syllabus guidelines for the MTP. Each student should develop their folio according to the guidelines, relating to their own individual project. This may result in a variety of presentation styles, numbers of sketches and/or experiments.
