"For my Major Textiles Project, I have made a 1950’s winter coat influenced by Japanese culture and Puritan fashion featuring a transfer printed cherry blossom pink silk lining and embroidered bell cuffs."

Images of Work

"Interfacing was necessary for the manufacturing of my Major Textiles Project to offer extra weight and fullness to the main fabric of the design, evoking the 1950’s silhouette. The interfacing contributes to the structured collar and proportional contrast shown in the difference of width between the cinched waistline and the fullness at the hemline, emphasizing the power and dominance of the tailored shape. It also increases the insulative properties of the garment, further contributing to the success of the design as a winter coat."

"The Japanese cherry blossom design on the silk lining was achieved by the surface decoration technique of transfer printing. The cherry blossom tree features a breeze that carries the fly away blossoms throughout the lining of my coat, creating an internal artwork that contributes to the aesthetic of my project."

Select Student Folio Pages

The pages selected for each project reflect the individual students' interpretations of the syllabus guidelines for the MTP. Each student should develop their folio according to the guidelines, relating to their own individual project. This may result in a variety of presentation styles, numbers of sketches and/or experiments.
